The GuideStar Exchange has awarded The Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida a Gold Star, its highest rating, for the second year in a row.
The food bank earned the accolade because of its superior transparency, financial accountability, and impact.
“This is a testament to your organization’s commitment to data transparency,” GuideStar officials wrote to the food bank in announcing the award. The gold level is provided through GuideStar USA, Inc., a respected national clearinghouse of information on nonprofit organizations.
Toby Ives, the food bank’s interim CEO, said the food bank is gratified by this honor. “It is my job and my passion to tell all who will listen about the Harry Chapin Food Bank, that it is a fine organization doing important work in the community,” he said. “GuideStar is an independent organization that conducts in-depth evaluations of nonprofits. The job and passion of GuideStar is to tell you and others about the strength and integrity of nonprofits asking for your support.”

About the Harry Chapin Food Bank
The Harry Chapin Food Bank provides food for distribution to families and others in need through a network of more than 150 nonprofit agencies in Charlotte, Collier, Hendry, Glades and Lee counties. The food bank serves 30,000 people monthly. Half of our clients are children and seniors.
The food bank can distribute $6 worth of food and grocery items for each donated dollar. In fiscal year 2014-2015, the Harry Chapin Food Bank distributed 18.4 million pounds of food, valued at about $31.3 million. This was the equivalent of about 15.3 million meals.
The food bank is an affiliate of Feeding America, a network of 200 food banks and the nation’s largest hunger relief organization. The Harry Chapin Food Bank has also received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, the national nonprofit watchdog organization, for six consecutive years.
