Building the Harry Chapin Food Bank Hunger Action Center
While Southwest Florida is often called paradise, this is not the reality for many of our neighbors. One in 8 people – including 1 in 6 children – rely on hunger relief services. Natural disasters, rising living costs and economic instability have left too many families in our community struggling to make ends meet.
At Harry Chapin Food Bank, we are on a mission to ensure no one in our region goes hungry.
The new Hunger Action Center is our solution to this growing crisis. This innovative center will be a relief hub, expanding access to nutritious food and empowering our neighbors by addressing the root causes of hunger.
With your support, we can build a stronger, hunger-free future for generations.
The Face Of Hunger
Has Changed
More families and individuals – many who are working full-time jobs – are grappling with food insecurity. This includes hospitality workers, healthcare professionals, first responders and more who are seeking help. Many for the first time.
The Demand is
Growing Quickly
From distributing 22 million pounds of food in 2017 to over 32 million pounds in 2024, the demand in our community is rising.
By 2030, research projections show we’ll need to distribute 50 million pounds annually – increasing to 100 million
by 2050.
The Time to Act
is Now
Our current facility is operating at full capacity, limiting our ability to keep pace with the rising demand for hunger relief.
The Hunger Action Center is an investment in Southwest Florida, safeguarding our community against hunger for generations to come.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank Hunger Action Center is a new 110,175 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility that will more than double our current capacity, allowing us to better serve our neighbors in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties.
The future Center is more than a building – it’s a critical step toward creating a more resilient community. Equipping us to fight hunger now and for decades to come, we will be able to meet the needs of thousands of families, children, and seniors and expand our programs to address the root causes of hunger.
Expand capacity from 45 million pounds to 80 million pounds of food annually, with space to grow.
Located near I-75 and State Road 82, the Center will enable faster and broader food distribution for our five-county region.
As Southwest Florida’s largest hunger relief nonprofit, Harry Chapin Food Bank has served our neighbors for decades. In partnership with our Feeding Network, made up of 175 agency partners, we made an exceptional impact in 2024.
With your support, we can expand and enhance our successful initiatives like the In-School Pantry Programs, Harry’s Helpings meal kits, Care and Share Senior Feeding Program, and Mobile Food Programs, as well as develop and launch new programs to meet the evolving needs of our community.
Your generosity is essential to bringing the Hunger Action Center to life and better serving our neighbors.
