VolunteerWe LOVE Food Bank volunteers!

Volunteers are extremely important to the Harry Chapin Food Bank (HCFB), as without their labor of love we simply could not accomplish our mission.

In fiscal year 2017-2018, 3,839 volunteers collectively provided nearly 41,000 hours, which equate to more than $1 million of in-kind service (Independent Sector values volunteer hours at $24.69 per hour nationally).

At the Harry Chapin Food Bank, volunteers have the faces of working professionals, retirees, snowbirds, stay-at-home-parents, high school and college students, scouts, and members of the U.S. military.

These dedicated people help with product recovery, work in our fast-paced warehouse, provide administrative support, conduct their own food and fund drives, and assist with special events. The Food Bank depends upon volunteers who help us to distribute millions of pounds of food throughout Southwest Florida

All volunteer opportunities are customized to suit the skills and needs of those involved.

Corporate volunteers design unique teambuilding projects while school groups learn about hunger issues in their community while volunteering.

If you have special interests like photography, carpentry, computers, or other hard-to-find skills, let us know! We can always find a fun and meaningful way for you to contribute to the Harry Chapin Food Bank. During regular weekday business hours and most Saturdays, you can help by preparing donations to be distributed, such as pre-sort, inspect and pack food items.

HCFB also needs help at festivals, shows, fairs, walks, and food drives. Sponsored activities and food and fund drives are vital to the growth and sustainability of the food bank and so are you!

To find out if your volunteer hours could be matched by your company please click here or contact us at fighthunger@harrychapinfoodbank or call us (239) 334-7007.

Volunteers are critical to the foodbank and we encourage you to participate and help us feed the hungry in Southwest Florida.

Please note: All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes. Weekday opportunities at HCFB warehouses have a minimum age requirement of 16. Saturday volunteering at HCFB locations have a minimum age requirement of 14, and 14-year-olds must be accompanied by an adult.
