Volunteer

VolunteerWe LOVE Food Bank volunteers! Volunteers are extremely important to the Harry Chapin Food Bank (HCFB), as without their labor of love we simply could not accomplish our mission.

In fiscal year 2013-2014 more than 4,200 volunteers collectively provided 50,200 hours which equates to more than $1,132,000 in provided in-kind service (the value of a volunteer hour according to the 2013 Independent Sector report is $22.55/hour).

At the Harry Chapin Food Bank, volunteers have the faces of working professionals, retirees, snowbirds, stay-at-home-parents, high school and college students, scouts, and members of the U.S. military. Please note: Weekday opportunities at HCFB warehouses have a minimum age requirement of 16. Saturday volunteering at HCFB locations have a minimum age requirement of 14. These dedicated people help with product recovery, work in our fast-paced warehouse, provide administrative support, conduct their own food and fund drives, and assist with special events. The Food Bank depends upon volunteers who help us to distribute millions of pounds of food throughout Southwest FloridaVolunteer

All volunteer opportunities are customized to suit the skills and needs of those involved. Corporate volunteers design unique teambuilding projects while school groups learn about hunger issues in their community while volunteering.

If you have special interests like photography, carpentry, computers, or other hard-to-find skills, let us know! We can always find a fun and meaningful way for you to contribute to the Harry Chapin Food Bank. During regular weekday business hours and most Saturdays, you can help our warehouse team prepare orders for agencies, receive incoming donations, or answer telephones on our busy switchboard.

HCFB also needs help at festivals, shows, fairs, walks, and food drives. Sponsored activities and food and fund drives are vital to the growth and sustainability of the food bank and so are you!
