Florida Nutrition Education courses are designed to help individuals and families make healthy food choices and best use of their SNAP budgets. Participants learn how to make healthy meals, stretch their dollars at the grocery store, and make informed decisions about what they eat.

Program Goals

The major program goal is for SNAP-eligible Florida residents to improve the quality of their diets toward better nutrition and adopt an active lifestyle for chronic disease prevention, healthy weight management, and improved quality of life.

INDIVIDUALS WHO BENEFIT

Individuals who are SNAP-Ed-eligible Florida residents of various age groups, including children, youth/teens, families with children, adults, and seniors.

  • Charlotte County: Adults 18-59 and Seniors 60 and older
  • Collier County: Adults 18-59 and Seniors 60 and older
  • Glades County: Youth 5-17; Adults 18-59 and Seniors 60 and older
  • Hendry County: Youth 5-17; Adults 18-59, and Seniors 60 and older
  • Lee County: Adults 18-59 and Seniors 60 and older

Nutrition Education Classes

The Food Bank shall provide individual or group-based nutrition education, health promotion, and intervention strategies.

Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) Change

The Food Bank shall offer public health approaches to addressing food and activity choices at a community level.

Florida SNAP-Ed will promote overall health by increasing healthy eating and physical activity opportunities for SNAP-Ed eligible Floridians to improve quality of life. The program will also take a life cycle approach, reaching SNAP-Ed eligible children, adults, and older adults to impact SNAP-eligible Floridians throughout the life course. Florida combines evidence-based nutrition education with policy, systems, and environmental changes, which aim to make the healthy choice the easy choice.
