The Harry Chapin Food Bank will hold a mobile food pantry Saturday, June 1, at the Golden Gate Community Center, one of the sites for Hands for Hearts, a free CPR awareness event held on that day by the Leadership Collier Class of 2019.
Hands for Hearts Collier will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at two Naples locations: the Sugden Community Theatre at701 Fifth Ave. S., and the Golden Gate Community Center at 4701 Golden Gate Parkway. There is no registration, and all ages are welcome. The food bank’s mobile pantry will be held for Hands for Hearts participants from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Golden Gate location.
Those attending Hands for Hearts will have a chance to learn more about Hands-Only CPR (CPR without rescue breaths) from a team of local CPR trainers, emergency medical technicians, healthcare professionals and firefighters, who are all volunteering for the event. Hands-Only CPR has been shown to be as effective as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest at home, at work or in public, and is recommended for use when a teen or adult collapses in an out-of-hospital setting.
The Harry Chapin Food Bank’s mobile pantry is an additional component of the event, offering an array of fresh produce, canned food, bread and grains on tables for those in need. The food bank serves up to 250 families at each mobile pantry.
“We are happy to partner in this event that helps raise awareness of steps we can take to stay healthy and help our community stay healthy,” said Richard LeBer, president and CEO of the Harry Chapin Food Bank, and a member of the Leadership Collier Class of 2019. “Nutritious food helps promote a healthy lifestyle, and the food bank strives to provide a balance of nonperishable foods, bread, meat and produce to help those who are food insecure and may not know where their next meal is coming from.”
“Hands for Hearts Collier is so pleased to have this partnership with Harry Chapin Food Bank at our Golden Gate location,” said event organizer and Leadership Collier Class of 2019 member, Ashley Mirakian. “Saving lives takes many forms – be it nutrition or CPR. The food bank’s mission is inspiring to us.”
