Harry Chapin Food Bank flips the script to support United Way

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2026) – Harry Chapin Food Bank, which has been generously supported by United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades for many years, turned the tables by hosting a series of grassroots fundraising events to support United Way programs and services.

Employees and volunteers at Harry Chapin Food Bank, the region’s largest hunger-relief organization and a longtime United Way partner agency, participated in a series of fun, team-building events to raise money for United Way. Fundraising activities included drenching their bosses in a dunk tank, indulging in ice cream and guessing how many pieces of candy were in a jar.

Employees also participated in a Halloween costume contest, with awards presented for the funniest, scariest, best food-inspired and best do-it-yourself costumes.

Altogether, the initiatives raised more than $7,000 to support United Way, which works with 92 partner agencies across Southwest Florida, including Harry Chapin Food Bank. United Way supports the local human services network, which provides essential services ranging from food security and health care to education and crisis response.

“For many years, United Way has generously supported Harry Chapin Food Bank and our mission to lead this community in the fight to end hunger,” said Harry Chapin Food Bank President and CEO Richard LeBer, one of three members of the leadership team who agreed to be dunked in exchange for donations. “Our employees and volunteers recognize the power of giving and the collective impact of our donations on the neighbors who need our support.”
