This week your food bank has had its eye on Hurricane Isaias and yet we fervently worked to distribute 905,576 pounds of food into our five-county footprint. It is our sincere hope that the 2020 hurricane season will be quiet or relatively mild. Nonetheless, we are prepared to move into hurricane action mode as we put our preparedness plans in place in May. We will continue to closely monitor this storm and respond as necessary. The food bank is considered an essential service, affording us the ability to operate in the event of a direct hit, assuming we don’t sustain physical damage hindering our ability to open. Hurricane Irma had her way with Southwest Florida on a Sunday afternoon and by Tuesday morning, we were distributing food and water to those who needed it.
As we close the books on the fifth month of Coronavirus, your food bank offers it deepest gratitude to our community that has so generously responded to the enormous need that this pandemic has created. Because of your generous support, we have been able to distribute 3,844,853 pounds of food this month. It gives your food bank great satisfaction to know that together, we have served a total of 3,204,044 meals in July to those who are hungry.
