Harry Chapin Food Bank Launches Public Warehouse Tours to Highlight Need for New Hunger Action Center

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Harry Chapin Food Bank is opening its current warehouse to the public through new guided tours to show how the Food Bank operates today. These tours highlight the limitations of the existing space and why a new, larger, and purpose-built Hunger Action Center is urgently needed to meet rising demand.

Beginning December 2, 2025, community members, businesses, and partners can tour the Food Bank’s distribution center in Fort Myers to see food sorting, packing, storage and distribution in action. The tours also illustrate the space limitations the organization faces as it works to serve a rapidly growing region.

“Visitors will see firsthand the incredible work our team accomplishes every day in a building that is simply too small for the need we’re trying to meet,” said Richard LeBer, president and CEO. “These tours give our community an inside look at why expanding into the new Hunger Action Center is essential to feeding more children, families, seniors and veterans now and in the future.”

Harry Chapin Food Bank currently distributes nearly 40 million pounds of food each year and serves approximately 300,000 neighbors monthly through a network of up to 175 partner agencies. Demand is expected to grow significantly in the coming decades.

The new 110,175-square-foot Hunger Action Center will more than double the size of the current warehouse and greatly expand dry, refrigerated, and frozen storage capacity. The facility will enhance volunteer spaces, add community classrooms and empower the Food Bank to move food more efficiently to neighbors experiencing hunger.
