Randy leaned against his car while waiting in line at Sun Splash Water Park in Cape Coral. His ankles were thick and swollen. He’s had eight surgeries on his ankles and is unable to work. Once an active person, he is barely able to walk. His insurance denied payment for his last surgery, saying it was a pre-existing condition. Randy has applied for disability and is waiting to see if he will be approved. “I’m embarrassed that I’m here, but I’m here because I’m hungry,” he said. “Food prices are about doubled in some cases.” He knows that when the cost of doing business rises, the costs get passed down to the consumer. That’s what he learned in economics class in college. “Still, it doesn’t make it right,” he said.
