Danielle Jaffee graduated from holding annual food drives on her birthday to coordinating a fundraiser to help people hurting from the coronavirus. She and her friend Becca Micelle raised more than $8,500 for the food bank.

Danielle and Becca, both high school students at the Community School of Naples, organized “Farming It Forward Veggie Sales.” They worked with Lipman Family Farms, which agreed to supply them with vegetables, many of which would have otherwise gone unpicked, they said. Then they sold 10-pound boxes of fresh produce for a minimum donation of $20 per box. On four consecutive Saturdays, their customers lined up at a designated location and they filled orders placed earlier in the week, wearing masks and gloves and placing the vegetables in the trunk.

“It was a win-win! Consumers getting hands free fresh veggies without having to enter a store, and all of the proceeds going to help Harry Chapin,” they wrote in an email to the food bank.
