Harry Chapin Food Bank has completed another week of leading our community in the fight to end hunger. With the help of so many of our heroes, we distributed 694,910 meals throughout our five-county footprint this week.
In the month of May, our fleet of trucks traveled 26,320 miles, delivering hope and nourishment to the thousands waiting in car lines. Our trucks pick up food from retail stores and they also deliver food to partner agencies and our drive-thru distributions.
We are particularly proud that we distributed 350,012 pounds of fresh produce this week. Our total poundage of food distributed this week was 833,893. It is simply incredible to know that this much food is needed to help meet the need that exists in our community. If you need food, please click here.
Our partner agencies continue to report rising distribution numbers. We are working diligently to meet these demands. This week, your food bank rescued 281,362 pounds of food from our retail partners. We continue to purchase nearly one million dollars of food each month and don’t foresee that slowing down anytime soon.
This week, 492 volunteers worked 1,622 hours for your food bank. These change makers helped us sort produce, pack food kits and help with the distributions. We are mindful that these change makers are freely giving of their time and we are thankful for their dedication. If you are well, able, and willing to give your time, please sign up here.
These past few months have been difficult at best. The sage words that Mr. Roger’s mother offered him continue to ring true. Mr. Roger’s shares, “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” Thank you for being our helper. Thank you for making a difference. Together, we are providing the safety net for our community and we are truly grateful for your partnership.
