Harry Chapin Food Bank regretfully announces that our Fort Myers Distribution Center and our Collier County Center will be closed on Monday, November 9, 2020 due to Tropical Storm Eta. The two drive-thru distributions scheduled for Monday, November 9, 2020 located at 26876 Pine Ave, Bonita Springs, FL 34135 (Bonita Old Library) and 4135 Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33916 (Fleamasters Flea Market) have been canceled due to Tropical Storm Eta.
Tropical Storm Eta is expected brush Collier County and much of our five-county footprint today and tomorrow. Tropical storm conditions are expected including heavy rains and sustained winds of 55-75 mph with gusts of 75-85 mph. These conditions present a safety risk for our employees and truck deliveries. The food bank’s Senior Leadership team will continue to closely monitor Tropical Storm Eta and make future decisions as this storm develops.
“Given that tropical storm conditions are expected in much of our five-county footprint, we feel it is prudent to suspend our operations in our warehouses and distribution sites on Monday. As we know more about the path and impact of the storm, we will make future decisions,” stated Richard LeBer, President and CEO of the food bank. “The safety of our drivers, volunteers, those whom we serve, and employees is the bedrock of our decision-making process.”
Harry Chapin Food Bank is prepared to serve those most affected by this storm once it can safely operate. Harry Chapin Food Bank is usually first on the scene to provide food and water to those who need it. Please continue to visit our website harrychapinfoodbank.org for updates.
