This week, Lois Thome, WINK News anchor, sat down with Dennis Hall, Director of Operations, to discuss the state of operations at Harry Chapin Food Bank. Our operations team is handling roughly 4 million pounds of food per month to feed more than a quarter of a million people who are hungry each month. Prior to COVID-19, our warehouse was receiving and distributing roughly 2 million pounds of food per month.

The scope and scale of how much food Dennis’ team is purchasing is overwhelming. Our spending on food has increased to $1,000,000 per month. This week, your food bank distributed 956,127 pounds of food, or 796,773 meals, into our five-county footprint.

We are grateful to the 346 volunteers who gave us 1,141 hours of their time this week. We still need volunteers to help us sort produce, build kits, and distribute food at our drive-thru distributions. If you are well, able, and willing to volunteer, please click here to sign up.

We are reminded that we cannot do this critical work alone. Working together, we are making a difference. Thank you for being our partner. Together, we will prevail in our mission to lead our community in the fight to end hunger.
